The sun rises over a January morning

During the school year, 2003-2004, Eric attended Covenant Bible College in Strathmore, Alberta Canada. CBC is an 8 month Bible college with locations in Canada, US (Colorado), and Ecuador.

It has been a wonderful, growing year for Eric and a very worthwhile experience that he is glad to have been a part of. He has made many new friends and grown in his commitment and love for the Lord.

CBC has three goals outlined in it's mission statement;
Covenant Bible College exists to equip men and women to live as disciples of Jesus Christ.

“...to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up.” Ephesians 4:12

This mission is rooted in the classic affirmations of the Christian faith as expressed in the Protestant Reformation - the need for personal salvation by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ; the supreme authority of Scripture; the priesthood and ministry of all believers. Fulfillment of this mission calls for preparation in all three dimensions:

SPIRITUAL FORMATION: Shaped by the love of God
Because loving God with all one’s heart, soul and mind is the greatest of all Biblical commands (Matthew 22:37-38) and the indispensable prerequisite to all Christian action, without which effort is fruitless and vain (I Corinthians 13), Covenant Bible College purposes to foster in each person a deepening love for God. Through instruction and experience in the spiritual disciplines of devotional Bible study, prayer, meditation and worship, each person will be encouraged to reflect upon and respond to God, His grace and His love. The Christian community of Covenant Bible College will provide the context of love and accountability needed for significant spiritual growth, challenging and supporting each person in the Christian pilgrimage.

BIBLICAL KNOWLEDGE: Mastered by the Word of God
Because the Bible is God’s Word, the only perfect rule for faith, doctrine and conduct, Covenant Bible College purposes to inspire in each person a love for God’s Word and to establish the skills needed to explore and understand the Bible for oneself, able to “correctly handle the word of truth” (I Timothy 2:15b). Through instruction and a variety of other learning experiences, each person will be challenged and equipped to apply the fruits of Biblical study to the issues and vocations of his/her life, for the ultimate goal of Bible study must always be not to master the Word but to increasingly be mastered by it.

CHRISTIAN MINISTRY: Partners in the work of God
Because each person who responds to God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ is not only adopted as God’s child but commissioned as His minister (I Peter 2:9), Covenant Bible College purposes to equip each person to minister to the individual and corporate needs of our world. Such ministry requires both proclamation of the message of salvation (Romans 10:17) and participation in meeting the needs of others (Matthew 25:31-46). Through instruction, through the challenge of living in Christian community, and through varied experiences of service in the church and in society, each person will be equipped to share the gospel of Christ in word and to live out its message in deed.

Strathmore, Alberta is located approximately 55 kilometers east of Calgary in the flat, prairie which is known for its bountiful wheat production and beef cattle. But it is also cold and wintry. The first snow arrived on October 30. Local lakes and pond were frozen until mid-April. January brought air temperatures to -40! But despite the hard conditions, the people are warm and friendly and accepting.

We hope that you can get a sense of the school year and campus through these photos.
